Flavor & tasting

Body

The weight, thickness, and tactile fullness of a coffee in the mouth — independent of flavor, ranging from tea-like to syrupy.

  • Availability: Common

Body is the physical impression a coffee leaves: a Kenyan pour-over might be light-bodied and tea-like, while a natural-processed Brazil pulled as espresso can be heavy and syrupy. Body is influenced by processing (naturals are heavier than washed), brewing method (paper filters reduce body, metal mesh increases it), and roast level (darker roasts often feel fuller). Together with acidity, body is one of the two structural attributes graders score.
