Brewing methods

Pour-over

A manual brewing method where hot water is poured in a slow, controlled stream over coffee grounds in a paper or cloth filter.

  • Availability: Common

Pour-over is the umbrella term for any brew where the barista pours hot water by hand over a filter cone. It usually takes 3–4 minutes per cup and shows off single-origin coffees because the paper filter strips out oils and produces a clean, articulate cup. In a Brooklyn specialty bar, ordering a pour-over typically means a Hario V60 or Chemex preparation made one cup at a time.
