Drinks

Long Black · long BLAK

An Australasian-style Americano in which espresso is poured over hot water — preserving more crema and intensity than a standard Americano.

  • Ratio: 1 espresso poured over ~3 oz hot water
  • Availability: Specialty

A long black is the Australian and New Zealand answer to the Americano. The pour order is reversed: hot water goes into the cup first, then the espresso is pulled directly on top, which keeps the crema intact and produces a more aromatic cup. It is typically smaller and more espresso-forward than its American cousin, served at roughly 5–6 oz. You will see it at Australian-influenced Brooklyn shops.
