The Greek frappé was invented by a Nestlé rep in Thessaloniki in 1957 and became Greece's national summer drink. It is built specifically with instant coffee — shaken or hand-blended with a small amount of cold water and sugar to a meringue-like foam, then poured over ice and topped with cold water and optionally milk. It is unrelated to the Starbucks "Frappuccino" (a blended ice drink) and almost only appears at Greek-owned cafés in Brooklyn.
