A Local's Guide to Coffee in Sunset Park (November 2026)

Sunset Park coffee by street: 4th and 5th Ave, Industry City, the blocks by the park and 8th Ave, with real hours for 15 shops from Tin Cup to Tadaima.

By Henrique do Valle

Sunset Park coffee runs north to south, so the easiest way to use it is by street. The Sunset Park hub lists 16 shops as of November 2026, and one of them, Yafa Cafe, is marked temporarily closed, so this guide covers the other 15, plus City League just over the line in Bay Ridge. The hub keeps the full list. This guide puts the shops in walking order, with the hours from each shop page and a reason to pick one stop over another.

The shape is simple. 4th and 5th Avenues carry most of the cafes from the high teens down to the 40s. Industry City sits toward the waterfront, west of 3rd Avenue in the 30s. The park itself starts at 41st Street between 5th and 7th Avenues, and 8th Avenue is one block east of it. A few strong shops sit farther south, out past 59th Street.

Start on 5th Avenue at the north end. Coffee Chisme, 610 5th Ave at 17th St · 5.0 · weekdays 7am to 3pm, weekends 8:30am to 5pm, is a breakfast stop with dine-in and takeout. A few blocks south, Cuppa Hive, 689 5th Ave · 5.0 · daily 7am to 6pm, has a lounge downstairs, room for a group or a laptop, and a pastry case with quiche, honey cake and banana pudding. Keep going to Sole Cafe, 822 5th Ave at 34th St · 4.9 · daily 7am to 4pm, which has outdoor seating and a breakfast menu.

One block west, 4th Avenue has its own cluster in the high teens and low 20s. Bread & Joe, 618 4th Ave · 4.8 · weekdays 7am to 4pm, closed weekends, is the breakfast stop, and reviewers keep mentioning the pastries and the friendly staff. L'Insolent Coffee, 635 4th Ave · 4.6 · weekdays 7am to 5pm, weekends 8am to 5pm, sells its own African coffee beans and pours matcha lattes and lavender iced mochas, with a Nutella loaf and cheddar biscuits on the counter. Tin Cup Cafe, 719 4th Ave at 23rd St · 4.5, is the one to know after dark: it runs 7am to 5pm Monday to Wednesday, 8am to 5pm Sunday, and stays open until 10pm Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Farther down 4th Avenue in the mid 30s, Cafe Nube, 940 4th Ave · 4.8 · weekdays 7:30am to 3:30pm, Sunday 9am to 3pm, closed Saturday, is family-run and pours single-origin Oaxacan pour-over next to a Korean-Mexican menu. Reviewers bring up the breakfast tacos, burritos and biscuits. It has WiFi and works for a laptop.

Then head west toward the water for Industry City. We wrote a separate guide to coffee near Industry City, so here are the three shops in short. Tadaima, 51 35th St, Building 5, second floor · 4.9, is a Japanese-inspired bakery cafe in Japan Village with pastries and matcha lattes. Its hours are short: Thursday and Friday 9am to 3pm, weekends noon to 4pm, closed Monday to Wednesday. Colson Patisserie, 253 36th St · 4.3 · weekdays 7:30am to 4:30pm, weekends 10am to 6pm, is the Belgian-style patisserie for croissants and espresso. Gumption Coffee, 168 39th St · 4.1 · weekdays 8am to 5pm, closed weekends, is an Australian-style roaster known for flat whites, with WiFi, outlets and outdoor seating.

Near the park, three shops sit within a few blocks of each other. Slimak, 4110 4th Ave at 41st St · 4.6 · weekdays 7am to 4pm, weekends 8am to 4pm, is a bistro-style room under pressed-tin ceilings, with brunch, locally roasted coffee and gluten-free options, and with 600 reviews it is the most reviewed of the open shops on the hub. Liebre Cafe, 4017 7th Ave at 41st St · 4.8 · weekdays 7am to 4pm, weekends 8am to 4pm, sits at the park's northeast corner, with outdoor seating and reviewers talking about the arepas and cachitos. One avenue over, Internet and Coffee, 4002 8th Ave at 40th St · 4.6 · daily 8am to 5pm, plays calm music and works for a laptop, with specialty lattes, tea and desserts.

The south end is worth the longer walk. Square Coffee, 5824 8th Ave at 59th St · 4.3 · Monday to Saturday 8am to 5pm, Sunday 8am to 4pm, is small with a short menu, and its shop page calls out the seaweed coffee and the brown sugar shaken espresso latte. Gigi's Coffee Shop, 511 61st St at 5th Ave · 4.6 · weekdays 8am to 6pm, Saturday 8am to 5pm, closed Sunday, has baked goods, breakfast and outdoor seating. Just over the line in Bay Ridge is City League Coffee Roasters, 6808 4th Ave at 68th St · 4.8 · weekdays 7am to 5pm, weekends 8am to 4pm. It began roasting in a Sunset Park garage in 2018 and now roasts rare single-origins in the neighborhood. The cafe has WiFi, outlets, outdoor seating and room for a group.

Hours change, so check the shop page before a weekend trip, especially for Tadaima, Bread & Joe and Gumption. Ratings are from Google. For the full list with live hours, open the Sunset Park hub. If you keep walking south, the Bay Ridge coffee guide picks up where this one ends, and north of 17th Street the Park Slope guide takes over.
