Doppio · DOH-pee-oh

Doppio is Italian for "double," and it is what most American specialty shops serve by default when you order an espresso. Single shots are now the exception. The double basket is also more forgiving to dial in than a single, which is why baristas pull doubles even when serving them as the base of a smaller drink. Order it neat in a demitasse to taste a roaster's espresso bean at full strength.
