A roaster's synonym for positive acidity — the lively, sparkling quality that makes a light-roast cup feel vivid and alert rather than flat.

Brightness is acidity at its most pleasant — sharp without being sour, lively without being thin. It is what makes a Yirgacheffe pour-over feel like it lights up the front of your mouth. A bright cup is usually a sign of a well-grown, well-processed, freshly roasted, and properly brewed coffee; a flat, dull cup often points to a problem in one of those stages.
