Early-Opening Coffee Shops in Brooklyn: A Cup Before 8am
The Brooklyn coffee shops that actually open before 8am, from a 6am Fort Greene counter to the 6:30 and 7:00 openers across the borough.

Almost every Brooklyn cafe lists an 8am open, and most of them mean it. But there is a smaller, more useful set that unlocks the door before eight, the places you want when you work an early shift, have a flight to catch, or just like the city quiet. We pulled the verified opening hours across the borough and here are the genuine early risers, by how early they actually start.
The earliest in our data is Moka & Co, open at 6:00 on weekdays, with a location in Fort Greene and another in Flatbush. Six in the morning is rare for a coffee shop here, so if you need a cup before the trains fill up, that is where to start.
The 6:30 tier is where it gets interesting, because it spreads right across Brooklyn. Casita in South Slope, Pueblo Querido in Greenpoint, Butler in Williamsburg, and Joe Coffee in Brooklyn Heights all open at 6:30 on weekdays. That is a real early-morning option in four different corners of the borough, north to south.

By 7:00 the field opens up. Roasters in particular tend to be early: 787 Coffee in Williamsburg and Sey Coffee in Bushwick are both running by seven, and Greenpoint alone has a stack of seven o’clock openers. If you are up at that hour, you have a serious cup within walking distance in nearly every neighborhood we cover.
The timing is worth knowing this summer in particular. Most of the New York and New Jersey World Cup matches kick off in the afternoon or evening,[1] which leaves the whole morning free. The early openers above are the pre-match cups, whether you are heading to a watch party or the free fan zone over at Brooklyn Bridge Park. The coffee is the easy part; you just have to be the kind of person who is awake for it.
Two caveats. These times come from Google Places and they shift, especially on weekends, when a lot of shops push the first pour back to 8 or later. So treat this as a starting point rather than a promise, and confirm live status on our open-now page before you build a morning around any one spot. The early door is a quiet luxury in this city. It is nice to know who keeps it.
