1434 Dekalb Ave
YellowSun Coffee is a single-origin-focused specialty cafe on Dekalb Avenue in Bushwick, opened on September 5, 2025, by co-founder and CEO Mohammad Wahid. Wahid, who also co-founded Hemi Coffee — a high-end Saudi Arabian roasting company — moved to New York in 2023 and brought with him an international perspective on specialty coffee that sets YellowSun apart from the typical Brooklyn cafe. The interior reflects a minimalist design philosophy built around natural materials, primarily warm wood surfaces that create a calm, welcoming environment. Bright yellow packaging and ceramics — the cafe's signature color — pop against the wooden backdrop, giving the space a distinctive visual identity. The overall atmosphere is designed to feel warm and unhurried, inviting guests to slow down and engage with the coffee. Wahid leads the roasting program himself, working on a fifteen-kilogram Loring machine at the Shared Roasting co-roastery in Brooklyn. The menu is built entirely around single-origin, transparent, traceable coffees — each offering comes with clear details about the farm and processing method behind it. Wahid sources samples from trusted suppliers and import partners, roasts and cups internally before making selections, and works directly with farmers to maintain relationships at origin. The drink menu includes pour-over and slow-drip brews alongside espresso, encouraging guests to experience the distinctive character of each origin. Beans are also available for purchase online at yellowsun.coffee. YellowSun Coffee was named to Coffee Klatsch's 2025 Noteworthy New York City Cafe Openings list and earned a feature in Daily Coffee News in February 2026, where the publication highlighted Wahid's commitment to traceability and single-origin transparency. Despite opening less than a year ago, the cafe has already achieved a perfect five-star rating and established itself as one of Bushwick's most exciting new specialty coffee destinations.
