Drinks

Café Bonbon · bohm-BOHN

A Spanish espresso drink layered over an equal volume of sweetened condensed milk, served in a small clear glass to show the two-tone layers.

  • Origin: Spanish
  • Also called: café bombón
  • Ratio: 1 espresso : 1 sweetened condensed milk
  • Availability: Rare find

Café bombón originated in Valencia and is built in a clear shot or cortado glass: sweetened condensed milk goes in first, then an espresso shot is poured slowly on top so the two stay separated until you stir. It is intensely sweet by design — closer to dessert than a traditional milk drink — and is the Spanish-Mediterranean cousin of Vietnamese iced coffee's hot milk-and-espresso pairing.
